GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
Government relations help organisations to obtain both favourable new regulation and favourable application of existing rules. In Europe, this requires a strategic approach with action at European Union, national and sometimes regional level.
The European Union has an important and still increasing rule in law making. It adopts laws that are directly applicable or that need to be transposed into national law. The latter is not always clear for the outsider, but today, more than three quarters of all new rules in an EU country originate in the European Union.
This does not mean that government relations can solely focus on the European Union. The way that the European Union works is that individual Member States can have a great, increasing influence on what initiatives are taken.
We advise organisations to develop a government relations strategy, which anticipates and acts at all levels of decision making; European and national; political and technical; factual and communicative; firm but involving stakeholders.
